DO BETTER CONSULTING
Our Values · Do Better Consulting

WE SAY WHATWE MEAN.Then we build it.

These aren't aspirations. They're operating rules. How we work, who we work with, and what we stand for — written plainly, held seriously.

Diversity, Equity, Inclusion & Belonging

INCLUSIVEBY DESIGN.Not by declaration.

Do Better was built on a direct observation: the people most often overlooked in hiring, leadership, and career advancement are not the least capable. They're the least positioned. And positioning — who gets seen, who gets hired, who gets to lead — is not a neutral process. It never has been.

DEIB at Do Better isn't a policy statement. It's the reason the firm exists. We work with clients to build hiring systems that evaluate people on what they can actually do — not on proxies, pattern matching, or the comfort of familiarity. We help professionals who have been systematically underestimated build the signal that makes their value impossible to ignore.

We believe that equitable hiring isn't a tradeoff against quality. It's what quality actually looks like when the process is designed well. And we believe that inclusion isn't a destination — it's a discipline. One that requires ongoing attention, honest self-assessment, and the willingness to say when something isn't working.

We don't just advise on this. We hold ourselves to it.

"Being talented isn't the issue. Being understood is. That's true for every professional — and it's especially true for the ones the market has historically been slowest to see."

How We Operate

THE WAY WEDO THE WORK.

Do Better is a consulting firm built around one person's expertise and a small network of trusted collaborators. That's a choice. It means every engagement gets real attention — not a junior team member following a playbook. Here's how we work.

01 / Direct by Default

WE SAY THE THING.

Every engagement starts with an honest look at what's actually broken — not what's comfortable to say. If the diagnosis is different from what you expected, we say that. If the solution is simpler than you thought, we say that too. We don't soften feedback to protect the relationship. We give direct feedback because we respect the relationship.

02 / Quality Over Volume

WE TAKE THE WORK SERIOUSLY.

Do Better doesn't operate on a high-volume model. We work with a limited number of clients at any time so every engagement gets the attention it deserves. You're not a number in a pipeline. You're a person or organization with a specific situation — and that's how we treat it.

03 / No Generic Playbooks

WE BUILD FOR YOUR SITUATION.

There are no off-the-shelf frameworks here. Every engagement starts from scratch — what's actually broken in your specific context, not what's broken on average. We don't recycle advice. We diagnose and build.

04 / Accountable to Outcomes

WE OWN THE RESULT.

We don't deliver a document and disappear. Every engagement has clear deliverables, clear timelines, and a clear definition of what success looks like. If something isn't working, we say that and we fix it. The goal is not a completed engagement. The goal is a changed situation.

Workplace Commitments

HOW WE WORKtogether.

Do Better works with clients and collaborators across time zones, industries, and backgrounds. These are the commitments we hold ourselves to in every working relationship.

Remote First

WORK FROM ANYWHERE.

Every engagement is designed to work remotely. We don't require in-person meetings to do good work. If you're in Austin or Osaka, the quality of the engagement is the same.

Flexible Scheduling

YOUR TIME MATTERS.

We work with clients across multiple time zones and schedules. Sessions are booked when they work for you — not when they're convenient for us. We respect that your time is one of your most finite resources.

Boundaries as Practice

WE MODEL WHAT WE ADVISE.

Do Better advises organizations on healthy, sustainable people practices. We hold ourselves to the same standard. We don't send messages at midnight expecting responses. We don't create urgency that isn't real. We don't model the burnout culture we're trying to help clients fix.

Psychological Safety

SAY THE REAL THING.

Every working relationship with Do Better is built on the premise that honest conversation produces better outcomes than comfortable ones. We create the conditions for that — and we hold both sides to it.

Transparent Communication

NO SURPRISES.

Scope, timeline, cost, progress — all of it is communicated clearly and early. If something changes, we say so immediately. If we've made an error, we own it and fix it. Transparency isn't a value we display. It's how we operate.

Continuous Learning

WE DON'T HAVE IT ALL FIGURED OUT.

The world of work is changing fast. AI, shifting workforce expectations, evolving hiring practices — we stay close to what's actually happening so our advice reflects current reality, not yesterday's playbook. We update our thinking when the evidence changes.

Our Standard

WE HOLD OURSELVESTO THE SAME STANDARDwe hold our clients to.

Do Better advises clients to build hiring systems that are equitable, consistent, and designed around actual outcomes. We hold our own practices to the same criteria. When we bring in collaborators or refer clients to other professionals, we actively seek out experts from underrepresented backgrounds — not as a quota, but because the best talent in this industry is not concentrated in the most obvious places.

We acknowledge that consulting, like every other industry, has structural inequities baked into it — who gets referrals, who gets taken seriously, whose expertise gets cited. We're not above that. But we're aware of it, and awareness is where accountability starts.

We don't have a perfect record. We have a commitment to keep looking at the record honestly and doing the work to improve it.

"The firms that talk about inclusion the most are sometimes the ones that have examined it the least. We'd rather say less and do more."

THESE ARE OURCOMMITMENTS.Hold us to them.

If you've experienced something that doesn't reflect what's written here — in an engagement, in our content, or in how we've shown up — we want to hear it. Directly.
